Leduc County fosters stewardship for Pigeon Lake
Grant funding supports lakeshore clean up and tree-planting efforts
April 10, 2013 – Leduc County is dedicated to the sustainability of Pigeon Lake and will continue to support related initiatives through the recently awarded TD Green Streets Grant in the amount of $6,200.
The TD Green Streets Grant is awarded to communities which demonstrate a commitment to environmental projects and municipal forestry innovation.
Leduc County is committed to revitalizing community forests, parks and lakes and plans to use the grant funding on lakeshore cleanup and planting efforts at Pigeon Lake.
“We’re proud to support the initiatives around Pigeon Lake and look forward to putting this grant funding to good use in that area,” says Dean Ohnysty, Director of Parks and Recreation.
The urban forest at Pigeon Lake helps protect what nearby residents feel is most important to the area – the lake itself.
Through community partnerships and collaboration, Leduc County will enhance the lakeshore by reclaiming disturbed areas by planting shoreline trees and shrubs.
“The residents of Pigeon Lake have worked hard over the last several years to ensure the sustainability of Pigeon Lake,” says Leduc County Councillor Ruth Harrison. “Leduc County is proud to join yet another initiative in these continued efforts.”
