Election 2013: County announces council candidates

Sept. 24, 2013 — A total of 17 Leduc County residents entered the race for Leduc County council on Monday when they filed their nomination papers for the fall municipal election on Oct. 21.

“This year’s Leduc County council candidates are a passionate group who clearly care about the state of the region and its residents, now and as we look forward to the next four years,” says Gale Miller, returning officer. “It’s encouraging to see so much interest from all candidates.”

A total of 17 candidates are running for Leduc County council in all seven of Leduc County’s electoral divisions. No divisions were acclaimed. The candidates will now spend the next four weeks campaigning for election day on Oct. 21.

The official candidates for the 2013 municipal election include:

Division 1

  • Jerry Romanyk
  • Rick Smith

Division 2

  • Marvin Molzan
  • Clay Stumph (Incumbent)

Division 3

  • Janette McDonald
  • Mary-Ann McDonald
  • John Schonewille (Incumbent)

Division 4

  • Richard Loose
  • John Whaley (Incumbent)

Division 5

  • Tanni Doblanko
  • Betty Glassman (Incumbent)

Division 6

  • Glenn Belozer
  • Ruth Harrison (Incumbent)
  • Danielle Scobie

Division 7

  • Warren Abel
  • Audrey Kelto (Incumbent)
  • Carol Rempel

Leduc County residents are strongly encouraged to become informed about the candidates in their division and cast their vote on Oct. 21. Residents should be aware that section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act now includes a requirement for voters to provide proof of identity and current residence in order to vote.
