Firefighters helping give Muscular Dystrophy the boot
Annual Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive set for Saturday, Oct. 12
Oct. 9, 2013 – Leduc County firefighters are asking commuters to open their hearts and wallets this weekend as they host the annual Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive.
Firefighters will be set up on Airport Road between fourth and fifth street in the Nisku Industrial Business Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Last year, local firefighters raised roughly $6,000 during the event, with all funds going to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
“We encourage all passersby to give generously to this worthwhile cause,” says Dave Sharratt, on-call firefighter with Leduc County Fire Services. “Every donation makes a difference and we hope to match or exceed last year’s amount.”
Canadian firefighters have played an important role for Muscular Dystrophy Canada since 1954 and have raised a total of more than $70 million – nearly $3 million is raised annually. Fire departments across the country educate, support and raise awareness of muscular dystrophy, helping focus the commitment of Canadians on the common and achievable goal to defeat neuromuscular disorders.
