Leduc County and Town of Devon host joint open house
Open house discussing annexation, South of Devon Industrial ASP and IDP amendments
April 1, 2014 — The Town of Devon and Leduc County are hosting a joint open house on April 16 to address the following items:
- The Town of Devon’s proposed annexation of land from Leduc County and the required Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP);
- The South of Devon Area Structure Plan and the proposed IDP amendment.
“Leduc County has been discussing the proposed annexation with our regional partner for some time and it is now time to extend that discussion to Leduc County residents,” says Leduc County Mayor John Whaley. “Following a collaborative process with the Town of Devon, we are satisfied that they require this land for future growth.”
The Town of Devon announced intentions to amend the Town of Devon/Leduc County IDP in November of 2013. On Jan. 27, 2014, the Town of Devon submitted a formal letter of intent to annex roughly one section of land from Leduc County.
“We are confident that our friends in Leduc County are supportive of this annexation proposal and we are pleased at the level of cooperation between our two municipalities,” says Town of Devon Mayor Stephen Lindop.
The IDP currently plans for industrial and commercial development within the proposed annexation area. With potential development to the south of Devon, both municipalities agree these lands should be reconsidered for residential development with a commercial corridor along Highway 19.
An amendment to the IDP to support this annexation requires approval by the Capital Region Board.
Both Leduc County and the Town of Devon will present information at the joint annexation open house:
Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2014
Time: 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a presentation at 7 p.m.
Location: Devon Community Centre, Main Hall, 20 Haven Avenue, Devon
All members of the public are invited to attend the joint annexation open house.
