Leduc County and City of Edmonton complete second annexation negotiation meeting
Sept. 5, 2014 — Representatives from both Leduc County and the City of Edmonton met yesterday to continue work on the annexation negotiations.
Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee and the City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiating Committee met to discuss protocols and the opportunity to engage an objective third party to facilitate future meetings.
The two committees agreed in principle to the annexation negotiation protocols and agreed to review and hire joint facilitators to assist in moving the negotiation process forward at a reasonable pace, which both parties feel is important.
Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee consists of Mayor John Whaley and councillors Clay Stumph, John Schonewille and Tanni Doblanko.
The City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiation Committee consists of Mayor Don Iveson and councillors Bryan Anderson, Ed Gibbons and Michael Walters.
Both committees agreed the meeting was amicable. They will meet again at the end of October. Annexation is a provincially regulated process and negotiation is part of the mandated process.
