Leduc County and City of Edmonton establish joint annexation negotiation protocols

Nov. 25, 2014 – Council representatives from both Leduc County and the City of Edmonton met Nov. 21, 2014 to finalize the annexation negotiation protocols.

The annexation negotiation protocols set the framework for negotiation sessions and will be signed by all members of Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee and the City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiating Committee.

A representative from the Municipal Government Board (MGB) was present at the meeting to provide an overview of the MGB’s annexation process and annexation principles.

Both committees agreed to a series of annexation negotiation sessions, to be facilitated by a pair of jointly-hired facilitators. The next scheduled session will take place on Dec. 16, 2014. Annexation is a provincially regulated process and negotiation is part of the mandated process.

Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee consists of Mayor John Whaley and councillors Clay Stumph, John Schonewille and Tanni Doblanko.

The City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiation Committee consists of Mayor Don Iveson and councillors Bryan Anderson, Ed Gibbons and Michael Walters.
