Eight youth awarded in Family Day Unplugged contest
March 2, 2015 – Leduc County recognizes eight area youth for their submissions for the Family Day Unplugged art contest.
“Students were challenged to identify what disconnecting from technology means to him or her, and further challenged to interpret that idea into visual artwork,” says Sara Russell, Community Support Coordinator. “The winners of the art contest truly captured the benefits of disconnecting from technology to connect with family, friends and the community.”
Leduc County partnered with area schools including those in the Town of Calmar, the Village of Thorsby and the Village of Warburg to collect submissions from students aged five to 18. Leduc County received 98 submissions for its first Family Day Unplugged art contest.
Leduc County was one of 20 municipalities in the capital region to participate in Family Day Unplugged, an initiative that encourages residents to disconnect from their devices on Family Day, in order to reconnect with family, friends and their communities. Leduc County residents reported nearly 500 hours disconnected on Feb. 16.
