Leduc County appeals Environmental Protection Order
March 3, 2015 – Leduc County filed its appeal yesterday for the Environmental Protection Order issued by Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) last week.
The appeal was filed in order to preserve Leduc County’s rights and to ensure the county is afforded a reasonable opportunity to continue examining the historical information and issues relating to the former Kavanagh Landfill, which was closed in the early 1970s.
Leduc County remains committed to investigating the history of the landfill and the reclamation program that was implemented following the landfill’s closure.
Leduc County takes the issuance of this order seriously, just as it does any concerns that the reclamation of the Kavanagh Landfill was not undertaken properly or effectively. Leduc County will cooperate fully with ESRDs investigation.
