Leduc County and City of Edmonton discuss Edmonton International Airport
Nov. 2, 2015 – Council representatives from both the City of Edmonton and Leduc County met Friday, Oct. 30, to further annexation talks.
Discussions focused primarily on the City of Edmonton’s rationale for proposing to annex the Edmonton International Airport (EIA), which both municipalities recognize as a key regional asset and economic driver. The city presented its position on how it would support the continued growth of the airport and further economic development for the region.
Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee and the City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiating Committee will continue to meet on a monthly basis to work through the list of topics relevant to landowners and other affected parties.
The next negotiation session is scheduled for Nov. 13, 2015, at which time the City of Edmonton will present its vision for the proposed annexation lands.
Annexation is a provincially-regulated process and negotiation is a mandated component of this process. Consultation with affected landowners, residents, and stakeholders such as the EIA will occur at various stages throughout the negotiation process.
Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee consists of Mayor John Whaley and councillors Clay Stumph, John Schonewille and Tanni Doblanko.
The City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiating Committee consists of Mayor Don Iveson and councillors Bryan Anderson, Ed Gibbons and Michael Walters.
